Looking for a superb field guide to wildflowers of the mountain regions of the Eastern United States? Nature photographer Tom Gold Knight has put together a stunning collection of wildflowers especially for ereaders such as the Nook Color. This field guide is unique because it includes many pollinators which are critical for wildflowers to survive and flourish. Also included are many images of the leaves of the wildflower plants. These photographs of wildflower leaves are very helpful for plant identification. Each wildflower photograph comes with information about its size, usual locations where it might be found and time of year it normally flowers. Use your ereader to explore and identify natures wild flowering plants. This is a great addition to your collection.

I was looking for something to replace all of my field guides. The pictures are nice. It might be okay for beginners but the plants represented were soooo common and the ones I didn't know do not grow in my area. I don't mind that they aren't in my area but the range information was missing from the entries. That's kind of basic. The book does illustrate the pollinator of the plants which is something I haven't seen before and there are illustrations of the fruit/seed. That is nice. The book is just so limited. The plant world is so much more extensive than this book shows. I tried an app instead called "LeafSnap". That I love.

Wildflowers of the Eastern United States eBook Field Guide Full Color 1 Tom Knight Reviews

This book provides an absolutely beautiful pictoral overview of all of the common wildflowers in the Eastern United States and Canada. There is not a lot of detail in the text but the pictures are so wonderful and provide an excellent guide to wildflowers for newbies. The author's love for wildflowers shines through in these stunning pictures. I found it really engaging and a great learning experience. A treat for my eyes in fact!
This book has been published locally by a really great photographer and horticulturalist, Tom Gold Knight. It has absolutely beautiful pictures and clear descriptions of the plants for ease of identification. Color coding helps when you are out in the field, so you can quickly orient to blue, red, white, yellow flowers, etc. It also includes a really great DVD for downloading all the pictures!

This author was a devoted hiker, a lover of the WNC region and general all around good guy. Buy it! You'll be so happy you did. I am.
I rate this 3 instead of 4 or 5 stars because for me, it is nearly devoid of all information. It does have REALLY GREAT PHOTOS of ONLY THE FLOWER ...not the whole plant. For me, I need to see the whole plant, and the flower.
I also prefer to have more information provided on flower than a short phrase like "star shaped flowers on a foam-loke spike" [sic., from Foam Flower, loc 252]. I'd prefer to know more about the plant shape and habit than "8"-12"" ... I just like more information. My husband likes terse and 'concise' books like this, but he doesn't do a lot of actual plant, bird, or whatever identification. He relies on me to first identify it, show it to him, and then uses the books as reminders of what he has learned.

I had assumed that since the title used the term Wildflowers that it would include the whole plant, not just the flower. Usually field guides use the term wildflower to indicate a plant which is small (herbaceous isntead of woody.. or smaller than a shrub sort of thing) ...not just the flower you spotted growing in the wild.

I would have liked to know how many petals on the flower, as this actually helps in identification at times. It was nice to see they included pollinator (or at least listed the main pollinator) for most (all?) plants, and even editied a picture of the pollinator into or over or beneath the picture of the plant. However, I think it's a bit weird to include pollinator in a book so devoid of any other interesting information about the plant.

Overall, like the 3 stars say, I'd guess the book is 'ok' to me.
It did not tell me were to find threses flowers. It was to vage and needs more I'm a photographer and would have loved more
This book has no keys and the selection of plants is far from exhaustive. I was surprised to find a number of plants included that are found in nurseries and not wildflowers at all. The pictures are of good quality.
I have been taking photos of wildflowers for years. However, I did not know much about them until I got this book and it has been a great help in learning about wildflowers .
